  When law can stop the blades of grass from growin' as they grow,
An' when the leaves in summer time their color dare not show,
Then I will change the color, too, I wear in my caubeen;
But till that day, praise God, I'll stick to the Wearin'o' the Green.

St. Patrick was born about A.D. 389 in Britain.

When he was 16 years old, he was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland.

During the six years he was held captive, he dedicated himself to his religion.

When he escaped, he returned to Britain to study religion with the hopes

 of returning to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity.

Over the next 30 years, St. Patrick founded more than 300 churches

and converted more than 120,000 people in his adopted country.

We know much of his history because of St. Patrick's own writings.
